bridge The Encounter of the People of Austria with US Soldiers after World War II
An Austrian-American Dialogue

Desperately seeking William P. Carson

Franz Nagele, whose name at birth was Franz Fruhleitner, has never met his father.

Right after World War II his mother met an American GI namend William P. Carson. She was working as a servant girl in the Innsbruck/Reutte region at Tyrol/Austria. William was among the GIs who liberated Austria in 1945. Franz was born on January 25, 1946. He was one of many Austrian-American "postwar babies" who never knew their fathers.

After many years of searching without success he had almost given up hope of ever finding his father. Now - 50 years after the end of the war - he is making one last attend. The rest of his family as well - his wife Angela, his children Peter, Julia, Philipp and his infant grandson Lukas - would rejoice in meeting their American "grandfather".

Franz Nagele-Fruhleitner has the following old military address of his father:

P.I.C. William Carson
A.S.N. 34830098 Co. B. 824
T.D.B.N. APO 758 c/o Pm
New York
