bridge The Encounter of the People of Austria with US Soldiers after World War II
An Austrian-American Dialogue

We are searching for our grandparents

In 1945 Ms. Ilona Biczo lived in the city of Salzburg/Austria/Europe.

A native of Hungary, she was then employed as a domestic servant in a private home at Werkstraße 10. At that time she met an American soldier who was stationed in Salzburg after World War II. She had a child fathered by him. The daughter - also named Ilona - was born on February 4, 1946.

In 1947 Ilona was adopted by Anna and Sebastian Gründwald from Untertauern in the province of Salzburg/Austria.

Next year she will celebrate her 50th birthday. In celebration of this happy event her children want to find the biological parents of their mother - ant thus, their own grandparents.
