The Encounter of the People of Austria with US Soldiers after
World War II
An Austrian-American Dialogue
I am enclosing a picture of two little girls I have thought of many times in the past 50 years or so.My military outfit Hq Btry 3rd Infantry Division Artillery was billited just outside Salzburg at the end of WW2. The two little girls in the picture were walking along the road near the house I was billited in. This house was across the road from our mess hall. The mess hall was a fairly large building. Not a house.
There are two things I would like to do. One is to find out where we were located there at Salzburg and second, to find these two little girls. I would like to know if they are ok after all these many years. The picture does not show it but each girl was carrying a bag. To collect something to eat I suppose. If the picture was full length it would also show they were badly malnurished.
If I could meet these girls they would know where the house is located. I would like to also apologize to the owner if his descendants are still occupying the house for the damage done by some of the soldiers who occupied it. The owner was an engineer of some kind.
This will be amazing if these two girls can be located by Internet after all these years.
