"Leftovers Feed Needy"

"Food that Rainbow GI's leave uneaten on their plates is now providing nourishment for three to five hundred Austrian transients everyday, according to Mrs. Perl B. Drubeck of the Red Cross Civilian War Relief agency in Salzburg.

Leftovers from 12 Rainbow Division mess halls and four USFA hotels are being collected each day and taken to a central kitchen where the food is processed into a thick heavy soup that is served hot - together with bread provided by the Austrian civilians Red Cross organization - to Austrian civilians who are traveling through at the railroad depot transient center.

In addition to the GI food, the Agency collects all the coffee grounds from the three Red Cross clubs in Salzburg, and while the reconditioned java isn't quite up to American standards, the hungry Austrians drink it thankfullly and declare it is good to the last drop."
